Ruapehu District Council has adopted the Ruapehu District Provisional Local Alcohol Policy (Provisional LAP). 

Council gave public notice of its adoption pursuant to section 80 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 on 12 March 2014.

The Provisional LAP can be viewed below or a copy can be obtained from an office of Council or by telephoning Council on 07 895 8188 or 06 395 8364.

In summary, the Provisional LAP states:

  • The maximum hours for all Club Licences: Monday to Sunday, 9am to 1am the following day
  • The maximum hours for all Off Licences: Monday to Sunday 7am to 11pm
  • The maximum hours for On Licences: Taumarunui and Ohura Wards - Monday to Sunday, 7am to 1am the following day; National Park and Waimarino-Waiouru Wards 7am to 3am the following day.

The Police, Medical Officers of Health and people who made a submission on the draft LAP can appeal against an element of the Provisional LAP.  The period during which an appeal may be made commenced on 12 March 2013 and ends on 12 April 2014.

The notice of appeal should include your name and contact details, the element of the provisional LAP that is being appealed and a statement of why the element is unreasonable in light of the object of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. The notice, with a copy of your submission on the draft Local Alcohol Policy and the prescribed fee ($517.50 GST incl), must be sent to:
