Raurimu
 Raurimu Spiral
Raurimu is a small town straddled around State Highway 4, just north of National Park Village. The town is renowned for the historic engineering feat of joining the North and South sections of the North Island Main Trunk Line in the early 1900's with a loop structure called the 'Raurimu Spiral'.
Engineers came from far and wide to ponder over the building of the structure and the Raurimu Spiral has become renowned the world over for the tightness of the spiral and the steep gradient the spiral travels across the Central Plateau.
The town of Raurimu was built to service the building of the Ruarimu Spiral and now provides an ideal holiday destination or base to live in the Ruapehu District.
