Proposed District Plan Change
(as Notified - June 2010)

Introduction

In June 2010, Council publicly notified a Plan Change to the Ruapehu District Plan 2000.  The proposed Change affects all the chapters of the current District Plan, except for the Indigenous Vegetation and Habitats of Indigenous Fauna (Biodiversity) chapter.

The Hearings into the Submissions have now been completed.  The next stage in the process is for the Commissioners to report back to Council with their recommendations.  If the Council votes to approve the plan change, Council will then notify the decision to all submitters and place a public notice in the local papers.

Once the decision has been notified the rules within the plan change will have legal effect.  Anyone who made a submission or further submission on the plan change may appeal the decision to the Environment Court.  However, they can only make an appeal in relation to a matter or provision raised in their submission.  Any appeals must be lodged with the Environment Court within 30 working days of the service of notice of the decision.  Please note the information above is simply a basic summary of the procedure.  Specific information is available on the following websites:
