Owhango WTP Reservoir repairs
Council's water contractor Veolia is needing to undertake an urgent repair on a leak at the Owhango Water Treatment Plant reservoir. The work will require Veolia to bypass the reservoir from this Wednesday 15 May to carry out the repair. The by-passing of the reservoir means there should be no interruption to the water supply over this period.
Executive Manager Infrastructure Vini Dutra said that the repair work is expected to be completed within one to two days, but the reservoir cannot be brought back on-line for an additional two days to allow for testing.
"The reservoir will not be reactivated immediately post-repair to allow for a comprehensive sampling regime aimed at ensuring the water remains free of contamination and meets all compliance standards," he said. "We envision having the reservoir back online by late Sunday 19 May or early Monday morning 20 May."
"With the bypassing of the reservoir we anticipate that there will be no interruptions to the water supply. Veolia will implement additional monitoring and sampling measures throughout the repair process to maintain water safety and quality.
The primary risk during this period involves potential reductions in chlorine dosing due to decreased contact time, although this is considered highly unlikely. As a precaution we will have a potable water tanker available in the village and should any risk materialize, an immediate boil water notice will be issued,” he said.
Mr. Dutra said residents will be informed through established communication channels including Facebook, Council's website, the Owhango School and Blue Hill Café in addition to notices at the post office and other key community spots.
“Council thanks Owhango residents for their understanding and cooperation as we ensure the safety and reliability of our water supply.”
