National Park Village


riverNational Park VIllage is situated on the volcanic plateau bordering the western side of the Tongariro National Park. Its location offers spectacular views of the three volcanoes - Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. A compact village, it is approximately 20 mins drive to Whakapapa ski area.

Approximately five minutes drive north of National Park VIllage is the village of Raurimu, after which the world famous railway spiral is named. The spiral can be seen from the viewing platform at Raurimu on State Highway 4.

To the west is the Whanganui National Park and Whakahoro, which sits at the meeting of the Whanganui and Retaruke Rivers. Whakahoro is one of the main entry and exit points for trips down the Whanganui River.
