Ruapehu - A No Exceptions District
On 27 May 2008 Ruapehu District Council, together with Whanganui District Health Board, declared their joint intention for the Ruapehu District to become a No Exceptions District - one that supports the inclusion of disabled people in all sport and physical recreation. This will be achieved by ensuring, over time, more accessible sport and physical recreation activities. Accessibility will be enhanced by improving the quality of relevant District Health Board and Council facilities, programmes and services to disabled people.
As well, Council and the Health Board issued a challenge to the wider sport and physical recreation community within the Ruapehu District to join this initiative and ensure disabled people are welcome within clubs and facilities and that they are appropriate to their needs.
They also challenge disabled people to become active in sports and physical recreation. The aim is a fully activity, fully inclusive community, with no exceptions.
