TMP veranda repairs underway
The insurance loss adjustor representing the trucking company that damaged the TMP Fashions veranda on the corner of Hakiaha and Manuaute Streets in Taumarunui have confirmed they accept liability for the costs allowing repair work to proceed.
Mayor Weston Kirton said this was a great news for both TMP Fashions and Taumarunui and will allow the area to be made safe before the Christmas parade on Saturday 3 December.
"Now that the truck insurer has confirmed that they will cover the full cost of repairs the property owner has been able to instruct their builder to get things underway which they say should take about two weeks," he said.
“I would like to thank the community for their patience while we worked through the issues with the insurance and other stakeholders.
Anyone who has had to deal with a large insurance claim knows that these things can take some time even if who is at fault may seem to be readily apparent.
Because of the impact on Taumarunui’s main street Council was getting frustrated with the delays.
We had actually just advised the loss adjustor that if things were not resolved soon Council was prepared to carry out the repairs then recover the costs from the insurance company.
Fortunately, shortly after this TMP were advised that insurance would cover the full cost of repairs,” he said.
