Passing of Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Te Tuawhitu

With profound sadness, Ruapehu District Council acknowledges the passing of Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Te Tuawhitu.

His departure marks a significant loss for our communities, Te Āo Māori and beyond.

Kīngi Tūheitia was a strong Pou within Māoridom who stood for kōtahitanga across Aotearoa and was a beacon of true leadership and strength.

We send our deepest condolences to the Kāhui Āriki, Waikato-Tainui and all those in mourning who will descend upon Tūrangawaewae in the coming days

As a sign of respect and acknowledgement, flags located at Council offices will be flying half mast until further notice.
