This section is made pursuant to Section 145 of the Local Government Act 2002.
17.1 All provisions in the signage section of the Ruapehu Bylaw are subordinate to provisions in the District Plan.
17.2 The following rules shall apply to signage within the Ruapehu District and should also be read in conjunction with the Heritage Rules of the Ruapehu District Plan. With the exception of the following:
(a) Controlling authority signage, e.g. traffic control, information and advisory signs; and
(b) igns associated with the disposal of land or premises*; and
(c) temporary signs (refer to definition)*
*The above signs are limited to 3m2 and a maximum height of 10m.
17.3 All signs must comply with the criteria laid out in Schedule 7.
17.4 An authorised Council officer may require the alteration or removal of any sign that is visible from a public place in contravention of this bylaw, by giving notice to the owner of that sign.
17.5 The owner of a sign shall comply with any such issued notice within the time stated in the notice.
17.6 If a sign owner fails to comply with any issued notice within the time stated in that notice authorised Council officers may, pursuant to section 163, Local Government Act 2002, enter the premises and remove any signage and supporting structures that are in contravention of this bylaw. Any costs incurred will be recovered from the sign owner as a debt.
