National Park

The journey so far...

Council met with National Park stakeholders on 12 September 2016 as part of our commitment to the revitalisation of Ruapehu townships. The meeting highlighted the desire of National Park to refresh their community plan as well as looking at other issues around improving the attractiveness of the village.

Council and the community discussed a range of issues relevant to the township's future including; the Regional Accelerate25 Action Plan, government’s initial co-investment announcements, planned and future projects, township revitalization, Council services, the 2018/28 Long Term Plan process and how this all fits together.

There was an excellent level of community engagement at the meeting where participants considered the issues confronting National Park and what needed to happen to get them moving. This included discussions on the good things and not so good things as well as perceptions around township identity.

Full meeting ‘brainstorm’ notes can be found in the Document Links panel below.

As a tourism community National Park has been well served by volunteers within the community who have established and maintained a web presence for the township. This level of community commitment is a critical factor in achieving township revitalisation success.

What next?

The National Park Community Board will restart this conversation with the community at their meeting on Tuesday 14 February 2017. The aim is to develop an initial action plan for how Council can support National Park’s development aspirations. The wider National park community is encouraged to attend this meeting and have their say.

In the interim please let us know what your vision for National Park is. You can do this easily via the online feedback form or email Council. You can also talk with your elected representatives to Council or the National Park Community Board.
