Ruapehu has an abundance of year round activities – hiking, walks or tramps to suit every level of fitness and ability, as well as fishing, kayaking, skiing & snowboarding, mountain biking and cycling. Walking and hiking tracks can be short walks, or multi-day walks.
The astonishing landscape and wild scenery can be explored on foot, skis or explore the great Whanganui River by raft, jet boat canoe or kayak. For a more strenuous activity, don your hiking boots and hike the tramping trails surrounding Mount Ruapehu. Whatever your choice, walking or cycling in the Ruapehu District is an ideal way to enjoy scenic views, nature and local attractions.
Ruapehu is home to two of the great mountain bike rides , the Timber Trail and the Mountains to Sea - Nga Ara Tuhono.
