Under proposed changes to the Dog Control Act all dogs (male and female) that are classified as menacing due to their breed, type or behaviour will need to de-sexed (neutered or speyed).
There are five breeds of dogs automatically classed as menacing, being:
- Brazilian Fila
- Dogo Argentino
- Japanese Tosa
- Perro de Presa Canario
- Pit Bull and Pit Bull crosses
If you own one of these breeds, or own a dog classified as menacing due to its past behaviour, that has not been de-sexed, Council would like to offer you the opportunity to neuter or spey (de-sex) your dog for FREE for a short period of time. By de-sexing your dog now you could save up to $350 when the legislation changes.
Besides being free, there are many benefits to neutering your dog. They include:
- Less susceptible to disease
- Healthier and live longer
- Less likely to want to roam
- Will be more social and fit into society better
