Over a number workshops starting late last year (2017) Ruapehu business leaders with the support of Council and the Auckland Chamber of Commerce have discussed what a group representing Ruapehu business interests could deliver for the business community and what sort of arrangements would best suit local needs.
The outcome of these discussions has been a decision to create a Ruapehu District Business Council.
The Ruapehu Business Council will be aligned with the NZ Chamber of Commerce network and members will be able to take advantage of all of the benefits associated with this.
Council's role has been in helping to facilitate these discussions. Council will have no role in the on-going operation of the Business Council once established.
Work is now being undertaken to set up an interim Committee and determine such things as membership and aspirations. This work is being undertaken with the support of Michael Barnett, CE of Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
