Council contractors are scheduled to remove the damaged sections of the entranceway arch at Ngā Huinga in Taumarunui.
The gateway arch was badly damaged when it was struck by a camper van, and the ruins of the damaged arch have remained in place while future options were considered.
The undamaged sections and fencing will remain in place to help mitigate speeding and stop vehicles from driving onto the grass.
Acting Manager Community & Recreational Facilities, Melissa Jackson, said the Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board (TOCB) had considered three options for the entranceway: reinstating the current brick arch with the “Cherry Grove” sign, removing it altogether and tidying the area, or replacing it with something new.
“As Ngā Huinga has now been returned to Ngāti Hāua as part of their Treaty settlement process, any new entranceway design will need to be developed with Ngāti Hāua Iwi Trust or its post-settlement entity,” she said.
