Facility user info (asbestos and music licencing)
Are you playing music at your event?
When you play music that is protected by copyright this is considered a ‘public performance’ under the New Zealand Copyright Act 1994. The Act grants music creators exclusive rights over how their work is used, and provides a legal framework to enable them to earn a living from their art.
If you are holding a public event at a Council facility such as a hall, domain or reserve where music will be played you may need a music licence.
