Ruapehu District Mayor Weston Kirton has paid tribute to Councillor Janelle Hinch, who is not seeking re-election at the upcoming local body elections.
“On behalf of Council and the wider Ruapehu community, I want to sincerely thank Janelle for her outstanding service over the past two terms,” said Mayor Kirton.
“As one of the district’s youngest councillors, Janelle brought fresh energy and perspective to the role, making a valued and lasting contribution to our work and decision-making.
By stepping forward at a young age and serving with commitment and integrity, Janelle has shown other young people that they too can represent their community and make a real difference,” he said.
Mayor Kirton added that as a local business owner in Ōhakune, Janelle brought firsthand experience of the challenges and issues faced by small businesses to the Council table, ensuring these voices were heard and considered in decision-making.
During her time on Council, Janelle represented Ruapehu on the Visit Ruapehu Board and previously served as the Council representative on the Ōwhango–National Park Community Board.
“Janelle’s commitment to our district and her ability to connect with a wide range of people has been a real asset,”
Mayor Kirton added. “We wish her every success in her future endeavours and thank her for her dedication to our communities.”
