Final results for the Ruapehu District Council elections will be released between late Thursday evening and Friday morning, later than originally anticipated, due to exceptionally high special vote participation.
Electionz.com has processed approximately 28,000 special votes this election – nearly 10,000 more than the 18,000 special votes received in the 2022 local body elections.
"We're seeing record special vote participation, which is wonderful for local democracy but does require additional validation time through the Electoral Commission," said Chief Executive Clive Manley.
"Electionz.com is working through the final validation and reconciliation process to ensure every vote is accurately counted while maintaining the integrity of the electoral process."
Preliminary results were released on Monday, 13 October.
Final results will now be available between late Thursday evening and Friday morning, 16 or 17 October, once all special votes have been verified and counted. Any close electoral contests will receive additional verification time to ensure absolute accuracy.
This means that if the final declaration occurs on Friday rather than Thursday, our current elected members will serve one additional day, with the new term officially taking office on Saturday.
Results will be published on the Council's website and Facebook page immediately as they are received.
