Ruapehu is a place worth investing in, visiting, and building a life in. Council plays a role in supporting the conditions for that — but we don't work alone.

Here's who does what.

Visit Ruapehu is responsible for tourism. As a Council Controlled Organisation, it operates independently but is funded and overseen by Council. Its focus is marketing Ruapehu as a destination and making it easy for visitors to find, choose, and enjoy the district.

Whanganui & Partners is contracted by Council to deliver economic development services. They work with businesses, investors, and communities across the wider region to identify opportunities and support growth.

Developed in 2023 by Visit Ruapehu and Waihuia Ventures Limited, this plan guides how Ruapehu grows and manages itself as a visitor destination — balancing the needs of visitors, communities, and the environment.
