Community Resilience Plans
Ready Communities
Strong, connected communities are better able to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
Ruapehu Emergency Management works alongside communities across the district to build local resilience through Community Resilience Plans and Community Emergency Hubs.
These initiatives are community-led and designed to help people understand their local risks, connect with each other, identify available skills and resources, and work together when an emergency occurs.
Community Resilience Plans
Community Resilience Plans help communities prepare for emergencies and support each other before, during and after an event. Developed by the community, for the community, each plan identifies local hazards, resources, strengths and arrangements that can help people respond and recover when normal services and infrastructure are disrupted.
A Community Resilience Plan can help your community:
- Understand the hazards and risks that could affect your area
- Identify local skills, resources and facilities
- Strengthen connections between neighbours, community groups, businesses, iwi and local organisations
- Understand how information can be shared during an emergency
- Identify how vulnerable or isolated people may be supported
- Plan how the community can work together during response and recovery
Ruapehu District Council is progressively working with communities across the district to develop Community Resilience Plans.
