What Happens Next

We'll acknowledge your request and let you know:

• Who's handling it
• When you can expect a response (normally within 20 working days)
• If there will be any charges involved

Timeframes

Most requests are responded to within 20 working days from when we receive them. We release information as quickly as we can.

Sometimes we may need more time if your request:

• Involves a large amount of information requiring significant research
• Needs input from multiple teams or external parties
• Requires consultation with people whose information is affected

If we need an extension, we'll contact you to explain why and provide a new timeframe.

Costs

Most requests are provided free of charge. We may charge for requests that involve:

• Significant staff time for research and collation
• Large volumes of photocopying or printing
• Specialised formats

If charges apply, we'll let you know the estimated cost before proceeding. You can find our current rates in our Fees and Charges Manual. We won't action your request until payment is received.

When Information May Be Withheld

Sometimes we cannot release information. Common reasons include:

• Protecting people's privacy
• Protecting confidential or commercially sensitive information
• Maintaining legal privilege
• Reasons specified in the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987

If we refuse all or part of your request, we'll explain why.
