Product recall for Rainbow Sand from Educational Colours and Creatistics
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has issued a public recall for rainbow sand from Educational Colours and Creatistics, after tests found tremolite (a naturally occurring asbestos).
What do I do if I need to dispose of the recalled sand?
- For residential quantities and schools who cannot send it back to the supplier, small quantities of the product can be taken to the Taumarunui or Ohakune transfer stations where the product will be treated as a hazardous material.
- No other site can accept the product.
- Leave the product in its current container – please it in a sealed bag or wrap in a plastic and tape ends. Dampen this bag and then place it in a second bag. Double wrapped.
- The weighbridge officers will need to complete the hazardous register and will charge $2.60 per litre of product.
- Customers will then be directed to the asbestos disposal point.
For commercial customers and retailers
- Please arrange disposal through a licensed asbestos removal specialist.
- You can find registered providers on the WorkSafe website.
