Road Grading Programme

Grading reshapes and smooths the surface of an unsealed road using specialised machinery.

Over time, traffic and weather can cause potholes, loose gravel, bumps and uneven sections to develop. Grading moves the road material back into place, restoring the shape of the road and helps water drain away from the surface.

Grading is usually completed using a motor grader and may also involve adding or moving gravel where needed.

While work is underway, residents and road users may see excavatrion, heavy machinery, temporary traffic management controls, reduced speed limits and delays. Temporary lane closures or short road closures may also be required at some stages.

The road surface may remain loose immediately after grading while traffic helps settle and compact the gravel. Drivers should follow all signs, reduced speed limits and directions from contractors.

Roads are prioritised based on factors such as their condition, traffic volumes, recent weather, maintenance history, network priorities and available funding.

Grading depends on suitable weather and road conditions. Work may be delayed if the conditions are not right to grade effectively. Dates may also change because of contractor availability, urgent repairs, emergencies or changes in network priorities.

Any changes will be added to the programme table as information becomes available.

If the road you're looking for is not listed, it is not currently included in the published grading programme.

Other unsealed road maintenance is carried out separately and may not appear in this table, including minor or urgent repairs and drainage work.
